Why do life insurance companies want to know about your medications?
The use of certain drugs may indicate an underlying medical condition that is an underwriting concern. Secondly, using a particular prescription may indicate onset of a health condition caused at least in part by poor lifestyle habits that can increase mortality, and this too is of concern to the underwriter. Thirdly, pharmaceuticals - taken alone or in combination with others - are never risk free, in that they present their own risks of death. Each medication is considered by the underwriter within the context of the individual's whole history.
